Sugarrae runs on the Thesis WordPress Theme
If you’re someone who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality that you wouldn’t be able to obtain otherwise with a simple control panel instead of having to alter code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.
For those "in between", like myself, I’ve created "dummy" guides for Thesis hooks that allow us to make more professional customizations than we ever deemed possible. The theme is not only highly customizable, but it has allowed me to run Sugarrae more professionally, with a much more targeted focus on monetization than it ever has been able to achieve before. You can find out more about Thesis below:

great roundup of facebook! i find the “how do you know this person?” feature gets kind of annoying. I always skip the confirmation request, but then other people come back and ask for it, usually something boring like “went to high school with you.” occasionally someone will write a gem like “met at the amish rave back in 96′” but otherwise, boring.
Well, the one cool aspect of truthful “how do you know this person?” answers is that when you click on “My Friends” and then at the tab up on the top called social timelines, you get a cool depiction of when and how all your friends came into your life. Assuming your truthful… a lot of times, we make shit up. ;-)
And there I was thinking we were going to get through a whole post without me being called a whore but you came through in the end :-)
@rAe
POKE! ;-)
The news feed is what really makes it so much better than myspace. That and there’s no automatic sound or rubish spammy profile templates.
Recently I used the change in my relationship status to tell all my friends that I’d got engaged. Although at first no one believed it, certainly saved texting everyone!
Rae, First off, I enjoy your blog immensely (or however that’s spelled!). Facebook is mos def my favorite social network site too.
I think my favorite thing is the Events. Makes it so much easier than calling everyone or emailing and asking for a reply!
good post.
pokepoke.
“Having more than 300 friends makes you look like a Facebook whore and we all know not that many people personally care about you.”
Facebook does give off that impression if you actually don’t have a network of classmates (both in high school and in college) that use it. I would say that you may be right if you were a brand new Facebook user, but the majority of the people who have that mutual Facebook relationship with me are actually people I have run into, whether in elementary school, middle school, high school, or in college. I would say that a good 90% of my friends have that affiliation in common with me. As for the other 10%, well, there’s you, there’s family, and there are former housemates. :P
I’d be skeptical if that number exceeded 600 or so. I remember getting former friend requests from people who tried to network but did it the wrong way. Now one of those guys’ accounts is full (7000 friends or so) and he’s trying to form a spillover account to network with the others.
OK how many “whore” terms does Greywolf rank for now? You should keep a tally. Or maybe he should.
I guarantee you that posting on your own wall will cause even your best friend to question your intelligence if they’re a longtime user.

Back to finish reading in a bit. I have some editing to do. $#@#!$%
Thanks Rae. You revealed a couple of rookie mistakes I’d already made, but mostly I seem to be “getting it”!
Omgwtfbbq!!!
I’m extremely impressed by your knowledge of what is cool and not cool on Facebook. Do you have any guidelines on how to look, dress, act and behave in society? I look forward to the possibility of following you on twitter.
Happy Trails
In case anyone is interested, the ‘poke’ feature on Facebook means that whoever you poke gets to see your profile for a week – and if someone pokes you, you get to see *their* profile for a week – without actually adding them as a friend.
