Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is definitely not on purpose. We used to have ads on those pages but took them out. Some code must have accidentally got left in.

From a practical perspective, I doubt hardly anyone looks at the Google cache of these pages. In fact, our AdSense account is showing no impressions. (Perhaps they don’t even count them.)

Anyway, we’ll clean it up.

Rae, thanks for letting me know about this. We launched Twitter with Google ads way back when. I’m not sure what is going on now but its definitely a bug and I’ve just informed the rest of the team so we can take a look.

OMG what a crazy find. You know if a smaller website owner, like say … me …. did something like even by complete accident Google would have them banned forever within days.

This for some reason really does not surprise me, it seems like an extra cash grab from Twitter..with Twitters scalability issues maybe they feel as though they need some extra revenue and this is the only thing they could come up with :P..I’m pretty much positive Google will do NOTHING about it, that’s assuming they don’t already know.
