PubCon Wrap Up – Better Late Than Never

by Rae Hoffman-Dolan | Conferences

I got back in from pubcon on Saturday, but then attended the Maimi at Buffalo game on Sunday (where it hailed, snowed and the Bills kicked ass) and spent most of Monday and Tuesday catching up from being gone. Thus I’m late with the wrap up… sue me. ;-)

First things first… I’d highly recommend you download my presentations from pubcon if you liked them as this past pubcon will be the last time I ever give them. I’ll still be doing my site audit/clinic/review panels as long as the various conference organizers let me do them, but this pubcon marks my last “formal presentation” with a powerpoint and ten minute speech I’ll be doing anytime in the near or distant future.

This is a me decision and not a decision made by pubcon or any other conference I’ve spoken at. I talk fast. I’m well aware of this downfall. Especially when I’m excited or “into” the topic of discussion, as I always am with seo. I’ve tried to slow down, but within a minute or two, I’m back to full Sugarrae. ;-)

In an attempt to help make up for my speaking speed, I make my slides pretty “full” so they can be downloaded later and you can still get most of the information discussed from them – enough to put the info to successful use. The presentations take me several hours to do because of it. And because, I’m told, the information in my presentations is pretty useful, I’ve been asked to return to all of the conference series I’ve ever done, even though my speaking speed is a bit faster than most speakers.

However, after coming home to read complaints about my speaking speed yet again this year after spending several hours of my time making the presentations that I think contain valuable information, my time and money flying out to, staying at and attending the conferences and the effort of speaking at them (mind you, I rarely take on consulting clients – as campy as it sounds, I speak purely for branding and to give back to the community), I’m retiring from “formal presentations”.

That said, I had a decent time this year. Shouts to:.

I’m sure I’m missing people. I’m sorry if you’re one of them. See yas next time folks.

Thesis WordPress theme

If you’re someone who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality that you wouldn’t be able to obtain otherwise with a simple control panel instead of having to alter code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

For those "in between", like myself, I’ve created "dummy" guides for Thesis hooks that allow us to make more professional customizations than we ever deemed possible. The theme is not only highly customizable, but it has allowed me to run Sugarrae more professionally, with a much more targeted focus on monetization than it ever has been able to achieve before.
