The Sugarrae Blog Comment Policy
I would expect that people wouldn’t need to erect a comment policy on their blogs, but due to an issue I had with having to lock a blog post, I decided it was probably time to erect one.
First and foremost, Sugarrae, Inc. reserves the right to delete or edit any comment for any reason at any time, period.
Commenters must be registered with the Sugarrae.com website and comments are moderated for first time users. After you comment for the first time, your comments should be directly published once you hit submit on future comments.
Additonally, we utilize Akismet as spam control on this blog. If you posted a comment and do not see it approved within 24 hours, it is possible you were caught in an Akismet filter. However, these days, it is also possible that we don’t live and breathe your comments and are busy and haven’t gotten around to approving it. So try having some patience. Your comment appearing on this blog is not life or death or more importantly revenue.
Feel free to disagree with any of the comments or statements on this blog. We welcome all kinds of thoughts whether they are supportive, critical or otherwise.
If you’d like to increase the chance that your blog post will not be deleted or in rare cases, edited, please keep the following in mind…
- Do not stray from the original topic discussion.
- Do not post potentially libelous comments.
- Do not spam this blog.
- Do not post racist, obscene (and on this blog, you have a lot of leeway there people) or threatening comments.
- Do not post content that you do not own (aka did not write) in the comments.
- Do not post private or personal information of another person.
- Do not post the contents of emails between you and another person without the other person’s consent.
- Do not put a signature in your comment… if people want to visit your site, they will click on your name and be taken to the URL within it.
- Do not put your name as “designer shoes” with a link to completely off topic from the content of this blog yourdesignershoewebsite.com. (We consider this the top annoyance of current commenters.)
- Do not violate trademarks, copyrights or intellectual property rights in your comments.
- Do not leave a comment that is so useless, we have to spend time deciding if it is spam or not (ex: “great post”).
That said, by posting a comment you agree to indemnify Sugarrae, Inc. , its employees, officers and owners from and against all liabilities, damages, judgments and costs (including court and attorney’s fees) incurred by any of them which arise out of or are related to the content that you post on the Sugarrae blog. In other words, by posting here, you are taking responsibility for your own actions and words.
Again, Sugarrae reserves the right to edit or delete any comments as it sees fit, but is not obligated to take any such actions and will not be responsible for any liable for content posted on the Sugarrae Blog in user contributed content areas.
Re: The Legal Issues With Comments
In the United States, fortunately, the law has been written to protect bloggers and other “interactive computer service providers” against libel torts for material that they did not write themselves.
This was codified into law by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, which said “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.”
If you don’t agree to these terms, it’s very simple… do not comment on this blog. Oh, and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
