Second Thing Complete – Number 14 – $100 per minute

Twenty Five Things

What’s an easy way to spend one thousand dollars in under ten minutes without anything to show for it? Complete number fourteen on my list of twenty five things. ;-)

So, we went to Niagara this weekend for a birthday bash and I decided to knock another item off my list. We found the closest craps table when we entered the Fallsview and I threw one thousand down on the table (in fairness, I threw 1060 down, because I apparently can’t count after a few shots and some beers). I got my stack of black chips and threw the first two hundred onto hard eight. Within two rolls, an easy eight came up (bad). Nice.

I throw another two hundred down, and within two more rolls, another easy eight (again, for non craps players, bad). I laugh and the pit boss looks at me like I’m insane and asks for my players card. I give him my license as I forgot the physical card per usual and put another two hundred on hard eight. Player craps out (bad) and now a total of six hundred is gone in less than five minutes. Dude to the left of me is staring at me very hard at this point.

Another friend comes up, asks how it’s going (I had three friends behind me watching all the action)… I said not well, and he suggests moving to another table. But the pit boss still has my license that I gave him in lieu of my player’s card. So, impatient that I am, I throw another two hundred down on hard eight while waiting.

Boom. Easy eight (bad) on the very next roll. Again, I laugh and the pit boss hands me back my license, very noticeably trying to observe if I’m drunk of not. I was tipsy for sure, but this plan had long been thought out and I knew damn well what I was doing.

I threw the last two hundred down on hard eight and on the very next roll, an easy eight hits (bad). 1000 dollars, two hundred at a time on hard eight, gone in ten minutes (well, 1010 because a traveling companion rode ten with me on the last one).

And I’m smiling and laughing the whole time (which did not help with the casino staff thinking I was nuts I’m sure), glad to have done it and knocked it off my list. I knew it was a stupid bet going in. Thus why I wanted to do it - you only live once.

If there was a question as to whether or not I was a degenerate gambler, it was solved Saturday night. ;-)

in 10 minutes, you donated to a casino what for me would be mortgage payments for a month. An acute illustration that your income is in a different strata… sorry I missed your latest Canadian tour, seems like every time you’re in the neighbourhood the timing sucks against previous commitments in my domestic schedule. Maybe next time…

Here you go…

Random.org uses atmospheric noise to generate random numbers and provides an interface to generate random integers (with duplicates, like dice rolls),

My dad has a thing for Roulette. He’s convinced himself that he can consistently beat it. About once a month or so, I’ll go to Random.org and generate 10,000 random numbers between 0 & 37 to simulate the Roulette wheel. He’ll take my spreadsheet and “Play” Roulette with it to see if he can use a system beat the game consistently. He’ll burn through 10,000 numbers in a few days while testing a new idea.

So far… He can beat it consistently but… The wheel can only spin so many times per hour & Casinos have betting limits. This creates a situation where he must bet small enough within his system to stay under the cap, and that causes the average hourly payout to not be worth his time. (Less than $25.00 per hour or so)

So… I keep sending him thousands of random numbers and he keeps trying to improve the average hourly payout. (Everyone needs a hobby)

Wow… that’s hard-core. I play the blackjack tables once in awhile, but only when I can get in on the $5.00 table. $1,000 gone in 10 mins… you’re my hero!

BTW… sorry you lossed!

[...] Last week / weekend I was up in Canada visiting some old friends that I have not seen for a long while. It was one certain dudes birthday, and I got to see one of my favorite Goldschlager guzzlers. This trip was pretty awesome. I got to see Rae spend money like some sort of high roller, got to visit people and got to get my drink on. [...]
