Be First or Bow Down to He Who Dugg Before You

Hey you. Wannabe digger. Yeah, you. What the fuck is it about the rules that you don’t understand? When you submit a story to Digg, it is supposed to be news. You know… things people haven’t read about before or a very new twist or angle or original thought on a non time sensitive topic. The digging process goes like this:

- You find a new story - to you anyway

- You submit to digg, craft a headline and a description, check spelling, pick a category and then enter the captcha and hit submit

- You almost always then go to a page that says: “We think your story might be a duplicate of one that was submitted by someone else. Please check the story below to make sure yours is not the same as one of them. If it’s the same, you can digg that story. If it’s not the same, continue using the button below.”

So why is it that it appears there is an abundance of idiots that cannot read the sentence above? Why am I sifting through not one, not ten, but fifteen stories about Paris Hilton going to jail (yeah, that’s right Speedy Gonzales, it was main page almost two damn days ago) in the top fifty most popular stories on the celebrity upcoming list?

You people who keep submitting (insert any other hot topic already on Digg thirty times for the Paris story) even though you know - you know damn well that the story has already been submitted… why? Why the fuck do you hit the submit button anyway? You see it. You *see* the story has been submitted. Submitting a unique url is not the same as submitting a unique story. If you are recapping what was already on defamer or hollywood tuna, guess what? No one wants to read your regurgitated shit.

Ok, we might want to read your regurgitated shit if you put a funny spin on it, and here’s the important part, it isn’t on the same exact topic as a story that has already hit the homepage in the last two weeks.

I’m sick of burying duplicates - by multiples of ten - while trying to find the good shit like why spiderman three sucked, Linkin Park’s new album being leaked or why certain celebrities seriously need condoms.

So, please, stop trying to get your ten minutes of fame on a story that you can already see, before you hit submit, has been done to death. Find something original or admit defeat and bow down to he who dugg before you.
