Beginner Affiliates
If you’re brand new to the affiliate game, I’d recommend reading the primer posts below that I wrote for the Sugarrae Blog and then get to work on your first site while returning to read the rest of the free articles on my affiliate marketing blog as you work. Be warned though that my writing style is known for being very “tell it like it is.” ;-)
THE Newbie Affiliate Marketing Guide
If you’re still not sure where to start after reading some of the articles here, check out Traffic and Trust – an e-Book written by a friend of mine that gives you both a realistic and achievable blueprint to affiliate marketing success (you can read Traffic and Trust review here.)
You may want me to tell you that you can get rich quick or get rich lazy, but I’ll leave that to the snake oil salesman.
The truth is that affiliate marketing is VERY doable and can BECOME a source of passive income – but you’ll have to actually WORK to achieve success with it, at least in the beginning.
Seasoned Affiliates
If you’re a more seasoned affiliate, your first stop should be the affiliate evolution post (as well as tons of other great articles on affiliate marketing and SEO) followed by watching the video interview I did about affiliate marketing in today’s world at PubCon a few years back:

If you’re an affiliate who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks. And with so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site.
For those "in between", like myself, I’ve created "dummy" guides for Thesis hooks that allow us to make more professional customizations than we ever deemed possible. The theme is not only highly customizable, but it has allowed me to have sites with a much more targeted focus on monetization than it ever has been able to achieve before.
